IT Infrastructure Audit and Modernization with Backup Data Center Implementation for PJSC "Bank Sich"

IT Infrastructure Audit and Modernization with Backup Data Center Implementation for PJSC "Bank Sich"

Summary

PJSC "Bank Sich" approached us with the goal of modernizing its IT systems to meet banking sector requirements, increase reliability, and enhance protection against cyber threats. A key priority was to develop an architecture capable of handling transaction growth, ensuring high service availability, and integrating with future digital solutions.

We conducted a comprehensive audit of the existing infrastructure, identified bottlenecks, and developed a modernization roadmap. As part of the project, a backup data center model was designed, cybersecurity solutions were implemented, and storage and backup systems were upgraded. This resulted in a resilient IT environment, ready to support continued business growth and meet evolving market demands.

Business Challenge

PJSC Bank Sich faced a strategic objective: to build a resilient and secure IT infrastructure capable of ensuring uninterrupted operation of banking services while meeting both national and international regulatory requirements.

The growth in financial transactions, expansion of the branch and terminal network, and the increasing scale of cyber threats required a complete architectural reassessment and the development of a backup data center to guarantee stability in the event of outages or emergencies.

In addition, it was crucial to ensure high availability of services during peak load periods and full SLA compliance for transaction processing speed — all while maintaining the infrastructure's flexibility for future digital transformation and the adoption of new solutions.

Solution and Business Value

Our team conducted a comprehensive audit of the bank’s IT systems, evaluating their reliability, standards compliance, and readiness for scaling. Based on the analysis, we developed a full modernization roadmap and designed a backup data center architecture that supports high availability and high-load readiness.

Key components of the project included:

  • Deployment of advanced cybersecurity solutions (Fortinet, IBM, Microsoft)
  • Modernization of storage and backup systems (HPE, VMware, Veeam), enhancing resilience and reducing recovery time
  • Development of a dual data center architecture for scalability and protection of critical data
  • A long-term IT growth strategy aligned with digital channel expansion and evolving regulatory demands

As a result, Bank Sich now operates a modern, secure, and fault-tolerant IT infrastructure that not only meets current operational and compliance requirements but also lays a solid foundation for future growth and digital transformation.

How the Solution Was Implemented

The project was executed in several key phases:

  1. Conducted an in-depth audit of IT systems, assessing reliability, security, and compliance with industry standards.
  2. Defined a target architecture model with functional distribution between the primary and backup data centers.
  3. Deployed virtualization solutions using VMware and Microsoft, along with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and IBM server and storage systems.
  4. Implemented network perimeter security using Fortinet equipment, ensuring high availability and centralized security policy management.
  5. Upgraded backup systems with Veeam, meeting resilience requirements and enabling fast recovery.
  6. Developed a phased infrastructure evolution strategy to support the bank’s digital transformation.

As a result, a fault-tolerant architecture was established — one that guarantees high service availability and minimizes downtime risks under any load conditions.

Technical Details

The architecture consists of two synchronized data centers:

  • Primary Data Center: Built using HPE and IBM server and storage infrastructure, virtualized via VMware, with centralized management.
  • Backup Data Center: Ensures automatic service failover during outages and guarantees uninterrupted operation.
  • Information Security: Multi-layer protection using Fortinet (firewalls, IDS/IPS, traffic control).
  • Backup & Recovery: Veeam solution with regular encrypted backups and fast recovery capabilities.
  • Microsoft Integration: Solutions like Active Directory, Exchange, and others for centralized user and data management.

This setup enabled the bank to meet key operational goals: High Availability, High Load Resilience and scalability for future business needs.

Key Takeaways

Architecture Ready for Regulatory Compliance & Growth
